Ubitech Construcții has signed the contract for the first package of construction works at the Cluj Regional Emergency Hospital. The agreement was concluded on 28 February 2024 and marks the beginning of a major healthcare project that will serve as the leading centre for critical care and complex cases in Romania’s North-West region.

The scope of the contract includes the initial construction phase, which covers site setup, bulk earth excavation, relocation of utility networks, temporary access road development, construction of a watertight enclosure using diaphragm walls, retaining walls made of bored piles, and preparatory work for expanding the site organisation in the second stage. This upcoming stage will be subject to a separate tender for the full construction of the hospital.

The project has an estimated total value of 3.35 billion lei. It will be financed primarily by the Ministry of Investments and European Projects, contributing 2 billion lei (comprising 1.64 billion lei from national funds and 350 million lei from European grants), alongside a 1.525 billion lei loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The Cluj Regional Emergency Hospital will be a flagship medical facility with a capacity of 849 beds, providing a full spectrum of services. These include 336 surgical care beds, 343 for medical care, 64 for paediatrics and obstetrics-gynaecology, 82 for intensive care (including 10 paediatric intensive care beds), and dedicated areas for neonatal intensive care and burn treatment.

The hospital will also incorporate a cardiology centre, an integrated surgical block with 22 operating theatres, as well as day care and day surgery services.
